Mel
Psychologist & Professional Development Facilitator
Mel is a registered psychologist with a big heart for connection and a deep passion for helping people make sense of their experiences. For the past five years, she has worked in private practice with clients of all ages, with a special focus on supporting people to process and integrate trauma in ways that feel safe, empowering, and true to them. She draws on approaches such as EMDR, ACT, CBT, trauma-informed practices, neuro-affirming practice, and inclusive care for LGBTQI+ communities and people from diverse cultural backgrounds.
Alongside her therapy work, Mel has spent the past eight years delivering training in trauma-responsive practice and in understanding the behaviour of children and young people. Whether she’s in a therapy room or a training space, she brings warmth, playfulness, and a knack for helping people reflect on how they show up in the world and connect with others.
Mel’s professional path began well before becoming a psychologist. She worked for eight years across the education and community sectors—in education support, out-of-school-hours care, NGOs, and therapeutic care—supporting children, foster carers, and families experiencing homelessness and domestic violence; and even brought her two therapy dogs into the work through animal-assisted therapy. She later became a Therapeutic Specialist, providing consultation in therapeutic residential care settings,
Known for her authenticity and sense of play, Mel believes that meaningful change starts with safe relationships and shared stories.
Outside of work, she’s most often found with her four-year-old daughter—her greatest joy—spending time with loved ones, bargain-hunting in op-shops, or happily disappearing into a new special interest.
